According to a new report from NPD group, mobile ordering at restaurants has
grown to an average of 23 percent per year since 2013. This is going to triple
by the end of 2020. The study revealed that 70 percent of a dining outlet’s digital orders were processed through
its mobile app or its website. The remaining 30 percent came via third-party
applications or sites. Most of the time, the restaurant’s own system was used
because of reward points or savings. David Portalatin, NPD food industry
adviser, advanced that “Digital
orders will remain an outsized source of growth for the restaurant sector
over the next few years, and operators who desire to grow need to embrace a
digital strategy”.
