The gaming industry has become very competitive. To
demarcate itself, Microsoft is releasing a new system: a digital Xbox One S which soon be launched.
It was initially codenamed “Xbox Maverick”. According to
speculations, it is a disc-less edition of the same console and it is designed
to play digital copies of existing and upcoming games. It is scheduled to arrive
in stores in May and pre-orders will begin in April. The decision to launch an
all-digital version of this famous gaming machine is beneficial to both Microsoft and players. Producing a
standard console involves a lot of costs and Blu-ray drives are expensive. By
ditching the physical component, the firm will be able to sell it at a
consequently lower price. This is a huge advantage to customers.
There are several rumours around this digital console. First
of all, it said to be $100 cheaper than the current Xbox One S selling price.
Moreover, players who have invested in physical copies of their games do not
have to worry. Apparently, they will be able to have “disc-to-digital”
program via which gamers can simply bring their discs to a Microsoft store and
trade it for a digital copy.
If the digital
Xbox One S is successful, this would help determine future game
console designs and pricing.
