Nowadays, customers can enjoy several food delivery services such as DoorDash and Postmates. However,
each one of these require you to download their app and to sign-up. To offer
consumers a unified and direct experience, Google is now integrating these
facilities into Assistant, Search and Maps.
You will be able to use your phone and give commands such as
“Hey Google, order food from [restaurant]”. This will show what delivery
facilities are available. For instance, if you use DoorDash, you will
access a menu and have the ability to checkout through Google Pay where payment
details are recorded. You will also be able to reorder from a particular
restaurant. If you say, “Hey Google, reorder food from [restaurant]”. You will
have the opportunity to select from a list of past orders or choose a new one.
When reordering, you interact only within Google
Assistant as you browse and confirm payment details. These options are
presented to the user through the standard carousel of chips at the bottom of
the screen.
In ‘Maps’ and ‘Search’ features, participating restaurant
listings will include an “Order
Online” button. Users have to pick between delivery or pickup and
then choose their preferred service. The interface is more standardised and
similar to looking at menus within Google Maps.
