Google Digital Wellbeing might be slowing down Pixel phone

The software Google Digital Wellbeing is a transparent tool that monitors your smartphone usage habits and lets you strike a healthier balance between technology and life in general. However, since the last couple of weeks, Pixel owners have been complaining of the app slowing down their phones.
Through an active thread on Reddit, various individual reports that their device’s performance is improved when the system is turned off. Some advance that the “night and day” difference is immediately visible. However, this has not been confirmed by everyone.

The Digital Wellbeing system is not designed in a way that slows down phone performance. It runs in the background and records how much time you are spending using apps and the device in general. This data is very important if you are trying to reduce screen time. For instance, you have the option of setting app timers or turning the screen to grayscale so that utilising your phone seems less appealing.

However, if the reports of the system slowing down your phone is true, people will be discouraged from using a tool that could have been very useful. Digital Wellbeing was one of the major new features of Android 9 Pie. It was first launched on Pixel phones before being rolled out to Android One.
