PepsiCo launches an innovation lab focused on QSRs

The beverage company PepsiCo has joined the list of institutions building innovation labs. The firm has released a statement announcing that it will be a “a first-of-its-kind suite of capabilities built to connect foodservice operators with the companies, services, insights, and solutions best suited for their specific digital and online needs”.

The firm advances that it plans to make use of research in the restaurant and food ordering sector to teach operators how to identify and deploy technology that benefits their businesses. This development comes at an appropriate time. There have been several advancements in these particular industries. The research has shown that one of main challenges faced within the broader food service world is the technology gap between consumers and QSR operators. 65 percent of the managers believe that using apps to place orders can deliver a positive customer experience. As such, PepsiCo wishes to give foodservice operators more information about how they can best use technology to their advantage. A recent survey has revealed that approximately two thirds of the respondents plan to upgrade their foodservice tech in one way or another in 2019 but many have advanced that they are frustrated about the time and energy needed to research and select the best solutions for their business.
