E-commerce: Google creates new opportunities with its Images tab

An important part of e-commerce is Google Images. Approximately three quarters of US internet users regularly or always search for visual content before making a purchase. According to eMarketer, only 3% never do.

Using product images allow potential buyers to have a positive experience when shopping online. Several experts advance that uploading multiple professional images for an item helps reduce customer uncertainty. This results in a better conversion rate and lower return rates. Jumpshot and Moz reveal that Google Images search share is approximately 26% of all searches. Moreover, optimised product images can give e-commerce businesses the ability to gain new clients. Allowing shoppers to have a look at up-to-date and accurate product information like pictures is key to completing a successful buyer experience.

Why does Google Images offer online retailers a great opportunity to acquire quality traffic? The tech giant has recently partnered with Getty images to allow users to benefit from a new search experience. As announced, this will result in two major changes. It is removing the option to “View Image” and replace it with “Visit Site”. This will shift traffic from Google Search to a retailer’s site. Thus, e-commerce marketing professionals can create new channels for customer acquisition.
