Many individuals would assume that the most famous Airbnb listings would be a hip and
urban location such as a Manhattan penthouse or somewhere in the heart of
London. However, that is not the case. The most popular location of this online
marketplace is a treehouse!
For more precision, the ‘building’ is treehouse-esque
structure that is found in the woods of a coastal Northern California town
called Aptos. It has a cylindrical shape and a roofed dome, which has led to it
being named ‘The Mushroom Dome’. What
was originally built for a homeless friend is now booked out until mid-2020 and
is viewed approximately three million times per year on Airbnb. Throughout the
years, the space was enhanced with a deck, bathrooms and other amenities so
that the owner’s friends and relatives do not experience any difficulty when
they visited for a little vacation. Since the cabin remained otherwise empty,
she decided to give Airbnb a go.
After ten years, ‘The
Mushroom Dome’ has become the site’s most popular rental spot. It
now has visitors from around the world because of its highly photogenic
environment, among other aspects such as a prime location. Experts also
advanced that this infrastructure provides “a glimpse into both the future of
lodging and the deepest desires of the human soul”.
