Bose is closing its US retail stores to focus on e-commerce

The Massachusetts-based audio equipment maker Bose opened its first US store in 1993. It was to provide clients with demonstrations for Wave music and Lifestyle home theatre systems. With time, the firm changed its focus to mobile, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi solutions.

The company has recently announced that it is going to close its 119 stores in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Japan, and Australia. This will be a gradual process that will take place over the next several months and is going to be a dramatic shift” to online shopping. This decision is following pressure from the e-commerce sector. During the past few years, a lot of retailers have been closing down stores across the country. Of course, so many outlets not being operational implies that many are going to lose their jobs. However, the firm has not disclosed how many positions will disappear. It has also advanced that to support those affected, it is going to make severance payments. Bose has offered to his employees help to find new work as well.

Speaking about this, Bose’s vice president of global sales said, “Originally, our retail stores gave people a way to experience, test, and talk to us about multi-component, CD, and DVD-based home entertainment systems”. She advanced that they focused on what customers needed and moving their attention to e-commerce is the same thing.
