Chipotle is testing Walk-Up restaurant for digital orders

Focusing on innovation and growing its business, Chipotle has decided to test a new restaurant format. It will be based on the Walk-Up concept and will be dedicated to orders processed digitally.

The outlet will be integrated with walk-up windows and built-in designs for pick-up orders. They will reduce friction and increase convenience for both customers and delivery drivers. Since quite some time, consumer habits have changed. People expect to have their food served more quickly and efficiently. This has been proven by the rise of the firm’s digital orders which has grown to 87.9% during the chain’s third quarter. This makes up approximately a fifth of its total sales.

The company has revealed that it hopes to open 150 to 165 new locations in 2020. More than half of these are going to include a ‘Chipotlane’ that is going to streamline the process of how customers pick up their online orders. The new design will have open views and front row seating that will give clients direct lines of sight into the kitchen which will emphasise the chain’s commitment to transparency and communication. Speaking about this, the Chief Development Officer of Chipotle advanced, “We are also excited to integrate new, innovative physical features into the restaurant that complement our growing digital business”.
