Growing in popularity in the e-commerce space, Buy Online Pick-up In Store (BOPIS) is
being utilised by an increasing number of consumers. It is predicted that this
trend will keep expanding, generating additional revenue for merchants.
However, omnichannel retailers should ensure that this feature is being
correctly implemented and that customer experience is seamless and enjoyable.
According to Business
Insider Intelligence, nearly 70% of US shoppers have utilised BOPIS more
than once. Half of them advanced that their decision to complete a purchase
online was based on whether this facility was offered. Furthermore, a study by
Adobe titled “December 2019 Holiday Shopping Trends” revealed that the number
of BOPIS orders increased by 37% last year and that over 80% of customers who
went to stores to pick-up their online orders bought other items. This gives
retailers opportunities for cross-selling which leads to more revenue
generated.
One of the main reasons for the popularity of BOPIS
is saving on shipping costs. Home delivery services often entail additional
fees which they do not have to settle if they pick up their order themselves.
Other determining factors are speed and convenience. This trend is particularly
handy if clients do not want to wait for too long before receiving their
product, especially during the holiday season.
