For quite some time, Target
has been investing in its e-commerce branch and this has not been for nothing.
The retail company has been focussing a lot on store remodels, same-day
delivery and drive-up services and it used to be at the 11th
position in U.S. online sales. However, the analyst firm eMarketer has recently
released a report which revealed that the supermarket company is going to jump
three spots to the 8th position. It will be ahead of Costco (number
9) and Macy’s (10th place).
According to the analyst, Target’s e-commerce business is going to increase by 24% in 2020 and will
reach $8.34 billion. While this might be a significant achievement, it is still
a long way from being in the league of the giant Amazon. This year, the
latter is predicted to claim a 38.7% share of the market. Its nearest
competitor, Walmart, has just a 5.3% share. In comparison, the supermarket
company Target will rule over only 1.2%.
Besides these firms, in the top 10 list of e-commerce
retailers, in descending order is, Ebay
(4.7% at the third position), Apple (3.7%), The Home Depot (1.7%), Wayfair
(1.5%) and Best Buy (1.3% at the 7th place ahead of Target).
