In light of the current pandemic, there has been a rise in
online orders, especially those related to food and other household
merchandise. As such, Amazon has
decided to transfer employees to its grocery bagging division.
A report by Reuters revealed that the company’s warehouse workers
will have the possibility to join Whole
Foods’ grocery team, a firm also owned by Amazon. It advanced that those
doing so will make more money. To be accurate, they will earn about $19 per
hour. This process is known as labour sharing: a system that reallocates workers
to other parts of a business “during times of extreme need”. Currently, many
consumers are opting for grocery delivery apps and services and, thus,
Amazon is experiencing more pressure.
The e-commerce giant has its Amazon Fresh program to deliver
groceries. Amazon Prime Now also serves customers
buying from Whole Foods stores. Nonetheless, there is still a huge amount of
work for the firm. There are several reports being disclosed about out-of-stock
items on Amazon. Moreover, there is a lack of delivery windows because of the
increasing number of requested services. Prime
Pantry had to temporarily shut down due to the massive amounts of traffic
and orders on the site.
