As advanced in a previous article, Apple is going to switch from x86 processors to ARM-based ones.
Many have been surprised by the fact that the firm is also working on desktop
computers with this tech.
The company’s mobile processors for the iPad Pro are very powerful for their form factors. However, it is
still not clear how the tech giant plans to integrate this system inside iMacs.
Moreover, ARM chips are low-power components. As such, there are many questions
on how they are going to perform when they are always connected to an active
power source. Additionally, when implemented
within Windows PCs, the success of ARM-based processors is strongly
based on software support. As such, their benefits won't be completely tapped
into until Mac developers update their apps. At the same time, Apple is making
its line of iPad Pro tablets with trackpad support. As such, it remains to be
seen how the tech giant will position these ARM-based products.
There were predictions earlier that Apple is likely to
introduce new MacBooks
with its own chips by late 2020 or early 2021 and this new discovery just
proves that right. Word is also out that “operations at MacBook-related
suppliers” will “improve significantly starting in late March”.
