E-commerce: more ways geography impacts conversion

As advanced in a previous article, geography does have an impact on e-commerce conversion rates. This post will look at more ways this can happen.

Population
Areas which are heavily populated will generate more sales simply because there are more consumers living there. As such, you must calculate the relative popularity of your products by dividing the number of customers in an area by its total population. This would allow you to access additional insight on whether you should increase your marketing expenses or not.

Household income
The lifetime value of consumers is significantly dependent on their household income. You must design ad campaigns for a particular area according to the average amount of money earned by a household in that region. The types of products you are advertising will also depend on this.

Other demographics
When making an analysis of your online sales, you must not forget to consider other factors such as age, gender distribution, ethnicity, unemployment rates or even crime rates. These can help you understand purchasing decisions and having access to this data will help you design more effective marketing strategies. You will also be able to make a more informed decision on the amount of money to spend on each campaign.
