Target is opening a gaming-oriented concept store

One of the largest retailers in America, Target, is experimenting with a new concept store. It is moving beyond the small format outlet initiative by introducing a one focussed on the digital gaming industry.

This sector is worth $61 billion and it seems that the retailer is trying to benefit from it. The tech industry website Protocol revealed that Target had a soft open for its new outlet called ‘The Game Room’. A limited number of people were invited to this. It is found at San Francisco on the site of the Target Open House location.

This location was previously focussed on the Internet of Things (Iot) and its set up was supposed to be a display room for connected home gadgets. However, the firm is now investing into the future of digital gaming.

What is the purpose of this room? Besides introducing you to new gadgets, the store will also allow you to try them out, offering a more immersive experience. As such, customers will have the opportunity to access Google's Stadia or Apple Arcade using the smartphones or tablets on display. They will also be able to explore virtual and augmented reality possibilities, play online games and participate in tournaments. Thus, Target will gain an understanding on how gamers interact with new technologies.
