The luxury retailer Net-a-Porter
has previously closed down its online shopping site amidst issues related to
the current pandemic. However, that is no longer the case.
Customers feeling bored at home and wishing to splurge can
now purchase clothes on the firm’s website. Nonetheless, its distribution
centres are still closed. As such, it is not going to ship orders until these
open again. A message on Net-a-Porter’s website announces that they are
temporarily changing their delivery routes and that clients can continue
shopping on their international e-commerce site. It has also stated that
customers will be charged “pounds instead of dollars — and taxes and duties may
apply”. This could discourage some buyers to complete purchases. Some experts
have advanced that it is still unclear why the luxury retailer had to
suspend its US online services.
Other major institutions have also faced issues with their
e-commerce activities since authorities have ordered citizens to stay at
home. Several warehouses were closed in
California, for example. One of the firms being impacted is Titan Industries,
the parent company of Badgley Mischka, and Deckers. The Ugg
maker has also resumed “modified operations” at a limited capacity at its
facility in Moreno Valley, Calif. While this situation is unprecedented, it
seems as if digital will become more important in the future.
