Even before the outbreak of Covid-19, the UK was set to
become a cashless society with more people using online payment solutions. Now,
since the pandemic began, the use of cash
has even more decreased. Following media reports that fiduciary money may aid
the spread of the disease, there has been a shift in behaviour. Retailers are
not accepting cash and customers are opting for digital services. In fact, 63% of UK consumers revealed that they
will be using contactless payment technology more in the short term due
to health
and safety concerns.
