As people are being forced to stay at home because of the
pandemic, there has been an increase in online
shopping. Now, according to the latest statistics, more consumers are
buying comfort items.
In average, transactions conducted on the Web have grown by
49 percent through mid-April in comparison with early March in the US. As
people tried to avoid long lines and crowds in stores, daily grocery sales spiked by 110 percent. At
the same time, Adobe revealed that sales for pyjamas increased by 143% in April
compared to last month. Transactions related to pants dropped by 13%. It seems
as if people are purchasing more comfort items to help them get through this
pandemic.
Lockdown regulations have disrupted the US economy. While
this situation has been a curse for some, it is a boon for others. For
instance, the giant Macy’s had to shut its stores and furlough most of its 125,000
employees. On the other hand, Amazon revealed that its revenue increased
by 26% for the first quarter of the year. It hired 175000 workers to cope with
the growth in demands.
An analyst at Adobe
Digital Insights, Vivek Pandya, advanced, “We’re seeing an adaptation of
buying, of people moving away from just panic buying toilet paper and PPE”.
