In a blog post, Samsung
just announced that it is going to launch a new payment method, a debit card,
this summer. This was revealed by Sang Ahn, vice president and general manager
of Samsung Pay.
According to the announcement, the card will be available in
North America and will be backed by a cash
management account. Moreover, Samsung is working on a “mobile-first money
management platform”. Not much was revealed about these two systems but it will
be interesting to see what the firm comes up with. Sang Ahn advanced that more
details will be disclosed in the upcoming weeks.
Samsung is not the first tech company to launch a branded
payment card. In August 2019, Apple collaborated with Goldman Sachs to
introduce a credit card called Apple Card. This is both a titanium
solution you can put in your wallet and a digital one that can be utilised via
the firm’s mobile wallet.
Speaking about tech giants, Google is also
working on its own branded payment card, according to reports. There are
speculations that it is going to introduce a debit card that will offer several
facilities such as spending-tracking tools. It remains to be seen how far these
sayings are true though.
