Have you been dreaming of travelling to Sicily, Italy? Well, now may not be the time for a visit, but it
might soon be. Indeed, the island has offered to settle half of your airfare
for your next Italian vacation.
This is part of a strategy to refill beaches with tourists
after the pandemic is over. Sicily advanced that it has lost more than $1.5
billion in tourism revenue since
Italy closed its borders on the 10th of March. To recover from this
loss, the island is splitting costs for airplane tickets and it is providing
vouchers that will cover some expenses related to attractions and accommodation.
However, there is no information as to when international tourism will resume
in the country.
Speaking about this, the Italian minister for culture and
tourism, Dario Franceschini advanced that the wait may be over sooner than expected.
He said, “We are making a strong investment in domestic tourism, because this
will be a summer of holidays in Italy”.
Additionally, this will allow the authorities to explore the efficiency of new
regulations, such as social distancing measures and trial contact tracing
steps, before the international tourism market is back in place. For instance,
there will be mandatory deckchair reservations.
