Since there is a considerable increase in demands related to
online grocery purchases, supermarkets are having trouble to offer a speedy
service. Indeed, consumers are lucky if they receive their items within one
week. Following this, Walmart has
launched a new solution called Express Delivery.
This project has been in the works for quite some time but
it is particularly handy in these current times. Those who need to receive
their purchases on the same day will have to pay an additional fee of $10
besides delivery charges to use this solution. The supermarket giant guarantees
that the order will be processed within two hours. Express Delivery will be rolled out to thousands of Walmart outlets
in the coming weeks.
Walmart has revealed that it has hired extra shoppers to
support the launch of this new service. It now has 74,000 employees dedicated
to picking items from shelves in stores to process online grocery orders.
However, according to some critics, this facility “is one solution to an
economic problem, but it's only a short-term win (if a win at all) for Walmart”.
Moreover, it reflects poorly on the supermarket firm at a time when 30 million
Americans have suddenly lost their jobs.
