Hermes plans to expand its services and create 10,500 jobs

The delivery company Hermes has announced that it is planning to expand its services. Based in Yorkshire, the firm is going to disburse £100 million and aims to create 10,500 jobs across the UK.

The firm has decided to invest into an expansion programme following an increase in demand for people shopping from home during the coronavirus lockdown. One of the firms’ spokesperson said, “The company is looking for around 1,500 full-time staff, including some roles at its head office in Yorkshire, and throughout its UK network for drivers, warehouse operatives, managers and supervisors”. He also advanced that there are opportunities for 9,000 more self-employed couriers across the UK. They will have the option of becoming SE+ couriers with guaranteed holiday pay as part of Hermes’ deal with the GMB Union. The firm has already started its recruitment process.

More than £30 million has already been invested in the expansion this year. It was used for the opening of an additional 90 new sub depots, new vehicles and innovative customer service technology. Hermes is planning to disburse more money to strengthen its infrastructure so that it is able to handle its predicted parcels volumes of 3.5 million each day during Black Friday and Christmas.
