The coronavirus lockdown has forced people to stay at home.
They can no longer go out to buy products or to meet friends and relatives. UK
customers have, thus, turned towards online
shopping to fill their time.
A survey was conducted by the price comparison site Idealo
among 1500 adult consumers in the country. 48% of the respondents advanced that
purchasing products on the Web made them feel happier during the pandemic and
31% revealed that they completed at least one transaction per week.
Additionally, nearly half of the people studied said that they have become
‘obsessed’ with e-shopping since the lockdown began and 39% admitted that they
got products that they would usually not purchase online.
With regards to the products bought, a third of the respondents
advanced they have been getting items for their home. Home and garden is the
most common category of goods that customers would not shop for online in
normal conditions. It is followed by fashion
and accessories, electronics, sweets and nibbles, and toys and gaming. A
lot of people have been purchasing products to keep themselves entertained at
home and fashion brands such as Nike,
Adidas, ASOS and Boohoo experienced huge increase in sales over the last three
months.
