As part of a huge transformation of its operations, Poundland is testing the introduction
of several new technologies. It is currently working on system for online
orders and deliveries in an attempt to move away from its traditional in-store
discount goods.
The firm just announced that an e-commerce website and home delivery service is being set up. It
will be conducting a pilot that use one of the chain's three stores in Cannock,
in the town centre. The outlet has been closed and it is being transformed into
an online fulfilment centre. According to the firm, this major transformation
programme is going to see shops refreshed, extended choice and new high street
investment. Since the retail industry has suffered quite some losses because of
the coronavirus, the retailer is trying to “play its part in rebuilding battered
high streets”.
This restructuring of operations is being called ‘Project
Diamond’ and it aims to lead the recovery of the UK’s town centres. Poundland
advanced that this transformation will see changes to pricing and refreshing
and refurbishing of its sites from the smallest convenience outlets to larger
destination stores.
