As advanced in a previous article, Poundland is in the middle of a huge transformation. It is
completely restructuring the way it operates by, for instance, working on an
e-commerce website. Find out about more changes below.
The firm is investing in new back office technology, through
its Oracle/ERP programme. Thanks to this, Wi-Fi will be available in all its
stores. Additionally, it will complete the move from single to simple price
retailer by having extended ranges at prices above and below £1. Three quarters
of products are still sold at the core £1 price point, but prices from 50p to
£5 have allowed the firm to expand its variety of items in health and beauty,
household and grocery. This simple price
roll-out, which began last year, will be completed by October.
Additionally, Poundland will now have three types of shops.
The first one will be ‘destination stores’ that offer the full range of
products including food, homeware, health and beauty and clothing. Then, there
will be ‘core stores’ that will feature a wide range of items on high streets
and ‘convenience stores’ will be for “grab and go” easy shopping. Barry
Williams, Poundland’s
managing director, said, “This is the biggest transformation in our history as
we look to secure our future for another 30 years”.
