Sainsbury’s is testing a virtual queuing system

Visiting stores is quite a chore nowadays. The most tiring part is queuing outside shops to be able to get in. This can be draining since you have to wait for a considerably long time. To make this situation easier for its clients, Sainsbury’s is testing a new system.

The supermarket company has introduced a virtual queuing solution that allows shoppers to wait for their turn remotely. This means that they do not have to stand outside a store. Instead, they can join the line from a remote location, such as their car, via a mobile app. Consumers just have to download the application on their smartphone and they will be able to monitor their position. This system is currently being tested at five outlets and the trial will run until mid-August.

According to experts, retailers have to find new ways to alleviate the task of queuing since it will soon be autumn and winter in the UK. Additionally, as advanced by Catherine Shuttleworth, retail analyst and chief executive at the retail marketing agency Savvy, consumers are demanding more measures to make the “new normal” easier. They are adopting new technologies to simplify their daily chores. One proof of that is the growth of ‘click-and-collect’ options.
