According to reports by The Sunday Times, Amazon is going to open its Go
convenience stores in the UK.
The newspaper company advanced that the e-commerce
giant has already concluded deals for the launch of 10 such outlets and it is
planning to expand it to 20 more in the future. However, discussions are still
in progress for the latter. It seems as if that Amazon is interested in opening
shops near transport hubs so that it is able to access busy commuters who are
in a hurry and need to pick up items on the go.
This move marks the introduction of the first Amazon Go
stores in the UK High Street. Just two years ago, the US saw the first of this
store in Seattle, Washington. The firm’s such shops in the US offer fresh
produce and are cashier-less. Before getting into the shop, customers have to
scan their unique barcode via their mobile
app. To keep track of what they are buying, the outlet is equipped with
cameras and once they pick up an item from the shelves, unless they put it
back, they will be charged for it. When they leave the store, they do not have
to deal with cash at all since their account will be automatically billed. Amazon
is going to send them a receipt of their purchases.
