AO is creating 650 new jobs because of online shopping growth

The online electrical store AO has announced that it is going to create 650 new jobs in the UK because of the e-commerce growth following the coronavirus lockdown. The firm is planning on an expansion to prepare for this increase. Part of this is establishing hundreds of “high-quality jobs for a diverse range of talented people”.

The new employees are going to support the company’s 3,000-strong team and they will be spread across its retail, mobile, tech, financial services and logistics divisions. Some of the new positions that will be filled are gas engineers, software developers, a fridge recycling shift coordinator and even a TikTok expert. Staff will be hired across several locations in the UK, including Manchester, Bolton, Telford, Thatcham and Crew. Some of the positions are also home-based ones.

According to the online retailer, the coronavirus has significantly accelerated the growth of e-commerce. It advanced that it has seen “five years of change within five weeks”. Moreover, it expects this shift to be “sustained” rather than just a short spike during the lockdown.

The firm’s founder and chief executive John Roberts, said: “AO went into Covid-19 fit and focused on the future. We now have the opportunity to make AO a habit that lasts for our new customers”.
