Eat Out to Help Out scheme used by 22 million British people

According to a survey by data and analytics company GlobalData, the Eat Out to Help Out scheme is a huge success. It revealed that a total of 22 million people has utilised or plan to use this plan. This represents 40.6% of UK customers.

Most people using this scheme are aged under 35 years old. Experts advance that, despite concerns about Covid-19, people venturing out because of this will surely help struggling retailers. Nonetheless, even if this is some good news, UK offline non-food spend is set to decrease by 25.2 percent, in comparison to last year.

The stores that will benefit the most from the Eat Out to Help Out scheme are those that are situated in neighbourhood locations and on high streets. The data shows that 60.6% and 45.2% of scheme users, respectively, plan to visit cafes or restaurants in these spots.

Sofie Willmott, a retail analyst as GlobalData advanced that, “Many British consumers are keen [to] regain a sense of normality by utilising the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, while obtaining value for money and simultaneously helping businesses to get back on their feet”. Nonetheless, this will not be enough to account for the number of people who have shifted to online shopping facilities.
