There is no escaping from it: shops are going to be crowded
in the upcoming days. People will be rushing to stores to complete their
shopping for the festivities. While the atmosphere is definitely joyous, we
should not forget that the pandemic is still going on and it is best to be
prudent and to avoid unnecessary contact with others. To that effect, Asda has decided to make a major change
in its stores.
The supermarket giant has announced that it is going to
deploy extra security on the doors of all its 421 large superstores. These will
be in place between December 19 and 24 to protect “colleagues and customers
during the busy Christmas shopping period”. The firm also has a Qudini virtual queuing app that is available
across all its shops. Additionally, it has leveraged automatic counting
technology. These have been installed at its 100 busiest stores and they
will help the firm control access while making social distancing easier.
The chief executive officer and president of Asda spoke about this decision and advanced, “The festive season is always the busiest time of year for our stores, so we have introduced additional safety measures to protect colleagues and customers during this period”.
