High Street shops are extending trading hours after the lockdown

The lockdown is coming to an end in December and merchants and customers alike are excited about this news. With less than a month left for Christmas, high street shops have decided to extend their trading hours in order to minimise losses.

Indeed, the UK government is re-allowing the opening of stores based on a tier system. Nonetheless, the Centre for Economics and Business Research has predicted that this will cost the economy a staggering £900 million daily. To try and offset this, high street outlets have decided to extend their trading hours, with some receiving visitors 24 hours a day. Indeed, the fast-fashion retailer Primark has announced that its 11 outlets will open round the clock once the lockdown ends. Customers will definitely be happy about this news since it does not have an online shop. On the other hand, M&S will keep its hundreds of stores operating until midnight. Some other major brands that will be working till later than usual are John Lewis, Currys PC World and Next, etc.

With the new tier system implemented by UK government, even if non-essential stores and services will be able to reopen, more than 34 million people will have to face tougher restrictions than before the national lockdown.
