Taking advantage of the boost in e-commerce, Instagram has introduced a new feature
for those who have decided to complete their Christmas shopping online. The
social media giant has collaborated with several influencers in the UK to
launch a catalog dedicated to the festival.
This new tool is a 12-page brochure that showcases a
selection of products from nine influencers. It serves two purposes. On the one
hand, it will be promoting the individuals themselves by shining a spotlight on
them and at the same time, it will give small businesses a boost. This is
pretty important right now, considering the fact that 2020 has been quite
challenging.
Each page of the Christmas
catalog is curated by a different influencer and the products featured are
all available for purchase via posted links. At the bottom right of the pages,
you are going to see a ‘Shop Now’ call-to-action. This will redirect users to
the several Instagram business pages. Some of the influencers involved are, as Instagram
said, “LGBT activist Tanya Compas, body positivity champion Megan Jayne Crabbe
(aka @BodyPosiPanda) and fashion stylist Monikh Dale”. This e-commerce
development further shows the social media company’s efforts to become “the
place to shop”. It will help build habitual shopping behaviour within the app.
