Google Lens has over 500 million downloads

A free tool provided by the tech giant, Google Lens also has a standalone app. This was launched in Play Store in June 2018. It has just been revealed that the application has reached more than 500 million downloads on Android devices.

What exactly is this tool? Google Lens is an image recognition tool. It was rolled out at Google I/O 2017 and later during the same year, the firm integrated it into Google Assistant on Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. In 2018, it could be accessed via Google Photos for both Pixels and other Android devices and in some smartphones’ camera app. It is only after that that it was rolled out as a standalone app available on Play Store.

The system gives users the opportunity to scan texts and translate them. Moreover, they will be able to copy the script to their computer, search for a particular object, solve maths and science questions, recognise handwritten notes, and perform other tasks.

What is interesting about this system is that even though Google Lens is available on all Android phones with Google Assistant, people have been downloading the application from Google Play Store ever since it was rolled out. That is why it has been able to surpass the 500 million downloads mark within such a short period of time.
