In light of the coronavirus pandemic and to protect all
parties involved, Chipotle has
decided to start testing curbside delivery services. Thanks to this, customers
will not have to go inside the restaurants to get their tacos or burritos.
This system is first being trialled at 29 locations in
California. How does it work? Customers ordering products from participating
restaurants using the firm’s mobile app
will see an option titled “curbside pickup” before they check out. They will be
able to enter information such as the make, type and colour of their vehicle into
the application. When they confirm their order, they will receive a set of
instructions. The directions will be along the following lines: “Go to the
restaurant, park as close to it as possible, and click an "I'm here"
button in the app”. When this is done, someone from Chipotle will bring the
clients’ order to their car.
The company’s chief technology officer advanced that if the
trial is a success, this facility will be rolled out in other areas in the
coming weeks. He also said that Chipotle
had started working on this program approximately three months back. It is a
follow-up to the popularity of its Chipotlanes. These are pick-up lanes
dedicated to digital orders.
