As advanced in a previous article, retail merchants have had to use new technologies to adapt to the
changes brought about by the coronavirus pandemic. Many of them used Scandit’s solution
to cope with this transformation. Let’s have a look at some firms that did so.
According to Christian Floerkemeier, CTO, vice president of
product and co-founder of Scandit, during the pandemic, Target found itself overwhelmed with orders. Even before the
lockdown, the company had a pretty strong e-commerce business and shipping was
being processed by Shipt, its delivery service. Nonetheless, during the crisis,
the supermarket company saw online orders tripling, which means that the firm
had to employ 100, 000 new employees quickly. This also involved training them.
To be more efficient, Shipt leveraged the technology developed by Scandit
to onboard these workers. Shoppers could utilise this scanning technology for
better inventory.
A similar issue was raised at Instacart who needed to hire
more people. Nonetheless, things were a bit more complicated here since there
was an increase in alcohol orders. Thus, the firm wanted to streamline age
verification. As such, Scandit added a new tech within its
app. The integration and rollout of this system took only 10 days. It allowed consumers
to upload identification which enabled age-verification and eliminated this
step during the delivery process.
