With the retail sector
being transformed, merchants have to face several challenges. Some were able to
quickly adapt to this change and to shift from brick and store operations to
e-commerce ones. This was possible because they had already adopted innovative
tech in-store.
For many, smartphone tech was lifesaving. Thanks to this,
they had the opportunity to quickly and accurately fulfil e-commerce and in-store pickup orders. Speaking about these changes
Christian Floerkemeier, CTO, vice president of product and co-founder of
Scandit, a mobile computer vision company advanced that suddenly, retailers saw
order volumes triple and basket sizes significantly increase. Those who did not
have the order fulfilment technology deployed had to quickly adapt and
introduce these systems.
One way that allowed them to do so was to use Scandit’s
tech. The firm lets retailers use smartphones and other handheld devices to
scan a bar code or item for more information. For instance, they can look up
whether a product is in stock. In a presentation the National Retail
Federation’s Chapter One virtual conference, Floerkemeier explained how its
technology can be used to ramp up order
fulfilment and create a verified identification program. Follow this
