The e-commerce giant Amazon
has announced that it is planning to open a salon in London. However, it should
be noted that this is going to be completely different and separate from the
cashier-less Go grocery stores which recently started appearing on the UK high
street.
Indeed, while the firm plans to open more supermarkets in
the UK, its intentions are not the same for this venture. In a blog post, it
advanced that it is going to be “an experiential venue where we showcase new
products and technology”. The Amazon salon will be located in Brushfield Street
in London and it will occupy more than 1,500 square feet of space across two
floors.
The company is planning to test new systems there. For
instance, it will be experimenting with augmented
reality, giving customers the opportunity to see what different hairstyles
and colours look on them via an app before they go for a change. Moreover, they
will be able to benefit from a “point-and-learn” technology. This means
that if they are interested in a product showcased on a display shelf, they
just have to point at it and they will receive more information on it.
Sadly, the Amazon
Salon will initially be open only to those working for the
e-commerce giant. Hopefully, this might change in the future.
