Social commerce: more features to shop online

As advanced in a previous article, with new e-commerce tools being developed, social commerce is becoming more important.

Both Facebook and Instagram are equipped with shoppable features. Thanks to these, brands, companies or any individual with a business account can link an item directly within an image posted on the app. As such, when consumers click on the link, they will be automatically redirected to the product page of their e-commerce website. Thus, they will be able to complete a purchase without leaving the mobile application and sacrificing their time on social media. Several big names, such as Zara and John Lewis, are using these e-commerce tools.

It is expected that shoppable social media will become more widespread in the upcoming years. Consumers will be able to complete purchases via a more streamlined process. Already, Instagram’s IGTV, Guides and Reels are becoming extremely popular. Experts are predicting that it will not be long before they are equipped with direct purchase links to replace hyperlinks.

Another major development will be related to videos. These have become users’ most preferred way of consuming content. This can clearly be seen with the increasing popularity of TikTok and YouTube. It is not long before these platforms allow us to purchase products in-app as well.
