Tesco introduces a ban on online orders

If you usually shop for groceries online, you must be aware of this upcoming change. Tesco has announced a ban that will be applicable for deliveries and click and collect orders.

The firm has said that as from the 19th of April, it will no longer provide non-essential plastic bags or tray liners for customers buying from its e-commerce website. This means that you have to be ready with your own bag at your doorstep when expecting a delivery. During the coronavirus pandemic, the outlet based in Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire had re-introduced these carrier bags to ensure the safety of its customers and staff. However, this new decision has been announced in a bid to protect the environment and reduce plastic consumption.

Nonetheless, there is no need to worry since Tesco has reassured its clients that delivery drivers will still bring shopping inside for customers who are vulnerable, disabled or elderly. However, they will not enter the homes of people who are self-isolating.

The process will slightly vary if you are opting for click and collect. When arriving at the collection point, you have to stay in your car. A Tesco employee will come to greet you and tell you how to proceed. The supermarket company did advise to having bags or boxes ready in your car to unpack your shopping into.
