According to media outlets, Google is updating its Phone app. Thanks to this new feature, the
system is going to announce who is calling you.
However, there is no need to worry. You will be able to
adjust the settings. For instance, you can choose whether this announcement
will be made every time the phone rings, only when you are wearing a headset or
never. This feature was already available on iOS devices and it seems that
Google’s version will be similar to that of Apple’s. Users found this to be
particularly useful. Caller ID announcements
are also great accessibility features for people with visual disabilities.
This option has not yet been made accessible for everyone. It is expected to be
rolled out gradually.
Another useful feature by Google is ‘Screen Call’.
Available for free for Pixels phones, it gives you the opportunity to avoid
getting spam calls and to protect your privacy. When using this option, Google
Assistant answers the call on your behalf, asking the caller to identify
themselves and to state why they are contacting you. You have the ability to
listen live and to intervene to talk to the person at any time or to keep
following the automated script.
