Amazon is testing robots to work in warehouses

For quite a while, Amazon has been looking into new technologies to streamline its processes. Now, it is testing robots in its warehouses. These are going to move carts and packages around. According to the company, this will increase safety and reduce accidents.

For years already, the e-commerce giant has been attracting a lot of criticisms because its working facilities are considered to be unsafe by some. The firm advanced that at the majority of its fulfilment centres, when processing customer orders, employees have to pick and load items on mobile shelves. As such, to find a solution to this situation, it will introduce two robots called Ernie and Bert. They will reduce the need for workers to reach up or bend down when retrieving products. The machines will take totes off a shelf and will use their robotic arms to deliver items to employees. This will make sure that they are in a more comfortable and ergonomically friendly position.

Experts at Amazon are very excited about this innovation. Its worldwide director of Advanced Technology said that while it is common for the firm to use new technologies to facilitate things for customers, this one offers extra motivation because it is designed for employees.
