Facebook is launching live audio rooms and podcasts

Back in April, Facebook announced a series of audio projects. These have been launched in the US. The social media giant has introduced live audio rooms in the US. Currently, this feature is only accessible on iOS. The roll out will involve public figures and select Groups in the platform for the time being. It has also created an initial set of US podcast partners.

According to the announcement by the social media giant, this new tool will become available to any verified public figure or creator in the US. The latter must have a good standing with Facebook and he must be using either a profile or the new Facebook Pages experience on iOS. It will also launch with ‘dozens of groups’. It is expected that in the coming months, the feature will be widely available.

The live audio rooms work in the same way as Clubhouse or similar audio apps. The event’s host is going to appear in a rounded profile icon at the top of the screen and the listeners will be displayed at the bottom as small icons. Moreover, users can also enable live captions. There is a ‘raise hand’ tool to request to speak and features to share the room with others on Facebook through News Feed or Group posts.
