Following reports that showed that more people started
gardening because of the pandemic, Selfridges
has introduced garden centres at its stores in London, Manchester and
Birmingham in the aim to capitalise on this growth.
Indeed, recently the Horticultural Trades Association
revealed that over 3 million people started to garden in 2020 since they have had
to spend more time at home during the lockdown. Following this, and as part of
a creative theme for the year called Good Nature, the luxury department store
has launched garden centres. These
will sell gardening tools, seeds, indoor and outdoor plants, pots and
Selfridges’ own label compost and yellow gnome. Besides these, there is a
curation of fashion, lifestyle and beauty products, as well as an exclusive
collection from Prada. These products are also available on its e-commerce
website.
Moreover, the garden centres feature The Potting Shed.
This is a destination for events and advice. You will be able to benefit from
the expertise of a resident gardener and a virtual “dial-a-gardener” service.
There will be a program of workshops and experiences promoting practical skills
and sustainable gardening methods. Despite the fact that the Selfridges
in London has the largest centre, every store in Birmingham and Manchester will
have their own Green House concept. Gardening information is also available on
the firm’s website.
