Chatbot: what is this exactly?

Being increasingly popular in several industries, chatbot is a virtual chatting technology. This digital system is able to answer users’ questions with a series of prefixed replies instantly.

Well, this market first started with basic facilities that offer simple but relevant answers. This means that conversations would involve uncomplicated queries only. However, with time, chatbots evolved. Now, they are equipped with artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies which allow them to amass a maximum amount of relevant customer data. They can also understand consumer behaviour and then provide replies accordingly.

Thus, now chatbots have several capabilities. For instance, they can conduct voice conversations, use natural language processing to decode queries and even cater to the linguistic decoding of intents. People nowadays can benefit from various types of voice assistants such as Google Allo, Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri and others.

A research conducted shows that 72% of users are interested in completing purchases via chatbots. This can especially be seen among millennials and the young crowds. They seem to be more comfortable when dealing with digital systems and voice assistants to complete their daily tasks. As such, businesses and merchants are using chatbots to stay relevant in this constantly evolving retail sector and to please their target audience.
