‘Shop Out to Help Out’: will it be efficient?

Since UK high street retailers are into troubled waters because of the pandemic, concerned parties are calling for the introduction of a ‘Shop Out to Help Out’ scheme to help out small independent stores.

This idea was instigated by the membership programme Refundable and it follows the same logic of the ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ project that was introduced last summer. This means that customers will be given a 50 percent rebate when purchasing from small or independent retailers that have fewer than 10 staff. Within just one year, thousands of brick and mortars have closed their doors permanently. It is being hoped that this scheme will act as a lifeline for retailers until they are able to settle down again as they emerge from restrictions. To put the petition into motion, Refundable is encouraging both customers and business owners to sign a petition for the project. Their goal is to reach 100,000 signatures.

It cannot be denied that independent retailers need more support during this transition period to normality. However, will the ‘Shop Out to Help Out’ scheme be enough to revive high streets? There are some doubts about that! If you wish to learn more on the opinions of some experts, keep reading the articles posted on this blog.
