The two programs introduced by Amazon to help merchants and to reduce waste are called FBA
Liquidations and FBA Grade and Resell. Let’s check them out.
The first one has already been implemented in Germany,
France, Italy and Spain and it will soon be rolled out to the UK. This allows
sellers to use Amazon’s existing wholesale liquidation partners and technology
so that they do not have to make losses on overstocked items. Previously, they
would have had to have the e-commerce
firm donate these on their behalf. Now, they can try to recover some value from
them by selling them in bulk. This is done is a hassle-free way.
With regards to returned items, FBA Grade and Resell
comes in handy. This program is available in the UK, later this year it will go
live in the US and by early 2022, it will be rolled out in Germany, France,
Italy and Spain. It gives third-party sellers the option to sell returned
products on the platform as ‘used items’ instead of having to send them back or
donate them.
Libby Johnson McKee, director of Amazon WW Returns,
ReCommerce and Sustainability, advanced, “These new programs are examples of
the steps we’re taking to ensure that products sold on Amazon — whether by us
or our small business partners — go to good use and don’t become waste”. It is
hoped that along with existing programs like FBA
Donations, they will be able to build a circular economy, maximise
reuse and reduce the negative impact on the environment.
