Like other social media companies, Twitter is testing a new e-commerce feature. This will allow users
to make purchases directly from brands’ profiles.
This new tool is called ‘Shop
Module’ and it has been developed to bridge the gap between discovering
products on the platform and then purchasing them. To access it, you have to go
to a designated space at the top of a profile. There, businesses are going to
showcase their products. Currently, this feature is being tested and it is only
available in the US via iOS devices.
According to the microblogging firm, ‘Shop Module’ is an
expansion from ‘Professional Profiles’, another feature that was introduced
earlier this year. The latter allows businesses, nonprofits, publishers and
creators to display specific information about their business directly on their
profile.
Moreover, Twitter also announced that it is planning to
create a new Merchant Advisory Board. This will be made up of brands
that have established themselves as “best-in-class examples of merchants on the
platform”.
The introduction of these new features are in line with the
increase in consumer demands for online shopping services. In a blog post, Twitter
advanced, “With this pilot, we’ll get to explore how our engaged, responsive
and chatty audience reacts to products that are emotionally charged – like a
new jersey from your favourite sports team”. Following successful testing, the
firm might go for a wider expansion.
