The supermarket company Aldi
has announced that it plans to create 2000 new jobs in the UK in the next year.
Considering that the number of sales has reached a record, this seems to be a
logical move.
The firm has now become Britain’s fifth largest supermarket
and it plans to invest £1.3 billion over the next two years to expand its
operations and boost its shares in the UK grocery
market. This was revealed when the firm published its annual results. These
showed that sales in the United Kingdom and Ireland increased by 10.2% to reach
£13.5 billion during the pandemic.
Currently, Aldi has more than 920 stores in the UK and it
employs approximately 38,000 people. Over the last two years, it has created 7000
permanent jobs and it intends to launch 2000 more. The company is also going to
invest in 100 shops and additional warehousing space. Moreover, looking
into new tech, it will trial a checkout-free outlet. This will be located in
Greenwich.
Giles Hurley, an executive at the firm advanced, “By
redefining the discount supermarket in the UK, creating more places and more
ways to shop with us, we are excited to provide millions of new customers with
access to Aldi’s
award-winning quality and unbeatable value”.
