According to a survey, more than a quarter of UK residents
have started Christmas shopping. Is
it not too early you ask? This is a result of the pandemic, supply chain issues
and shortage fears affecting purchasing habits.
The study reveals that 45% of consumers plan to avoid major
retailers and 48% intend to purchase fewer, but bigger and more considerate
gifts. This was disclosed by the Holiday
Shopping Trends 2021 report for the digital experience platform Sitecore.
It also shows that 51% of UK shoppers have savings set aside since they did not
spend much during the past year. 28% have already started buying items for the
festival and 48% plan to do so by October.
Last Christmas, most consumers relied on online shopping
services to purchase products. Will that be the case this year? It seems that
people will not rely so much on e-commerce. 31% said they will look for gifts
by window shopping on the high street, 23% intend to visit small independent retailers
and 21% wish to go to local Christmas markets. 43% said that they would ‘feel
lazy’ if they rely on online
shopping only. Nonetheless, it can be expected that 59% will most
likely purchase from Amazon at the last minute.
