Social media marketing: what is it?

Something that is becoming increasingly popular among e-commerce brands is social media marketing. What is this and how important is it?

This strategy refers to the process of creating personalised content and uploading it on social media platforms to drive engagement and promote a brand. It allows merchants to strengthen the relationship that they have with their customers. Why is it important? According to Statista, there are 2.85 billion active monthly users on Facebook. If we look at its subsidiaries, WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram, this number increases to 3.51 billion and by 2022, it will reach 3.96 billion.

Considering this huge number of users, it is vital for firms to invest in social media marketing since consumers are more at ease to discuss how they feel about a brand’s products and services on these platforms. Moreover, 50% of users leverage these networks to research products and services. Thus, these platforms allow e-commerce merchants to reach customers on their own turf.

Additionally, these websites have made it incredibly easier to trace traffic and signups to the initial content and to its poster, which gives companies more opportunities to reward consumers and incentivise continued support. Social media platforms are full of rich communities of individuals that self-segment into audiences, with analytics attributed to various actions. That is why brands are so keen on investing time and money into this strategy.
